Organizations we support

  • Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs) that finance affordable housing, community facilities and small businesses.
  • Community Development Corporations (CDCs) that focus on revitalizing the areas in which they are located; typically, underserved neighborhoods that have experienced disinvestment.
  • Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) and other developers of affordable housing that build or renovate 1-4 family homeownership and multi-family affordable housing.
  • SBICs and SBA-certified development corporations that can help grow small businesses, especially Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprises.

Strengthening Our Communities

Construction
financing

We have a dedicated community development lending team that provides pre-development, construction and permanent financing to for profit and non-profit developers of both affordable workforce housing and supportive housing for seniors, veterans, homeless and disabled individuals.

Tax-credit
investments

We provide equity by investing in Federal and State Low-income Housing Tax Credits, Federal and State Historic Tax Credits and New Markets Tax Credits for multi-family, mixed-use and mixed-income developments that help to economically revitalize neighborhoods.

FHLBB’s Affordable Housing Program

As a Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston (FHLBB) member bank, Webster can work with housing organizations (sponsors) to apply for grants or subsidized advances to support homeownership and rental housing initiatives for low- to moderate-income households.

First-time
homebuyers

We support HUD-certified affordable housing counseling agencies throughout our CRA footprint and offer a variety of mortgage products for low and moderate-income individuals and families seeking to purchase an affordable home.

Small businesses and community facilities

We provide technical assistance and capital for small businesses and community facilities, including charter schools, childcare centers and health care centers. We also provide SBA guaranteed loans to small businesses through Business Banking.

Homebuyer education credit and budget seminars

We offer customized financial literacy seminars in partnership with schools and non-profit organizations covering such topics as basic banking, household budget planning, understanding and repairing damaged credit and preparing for home ownership.

Meet our Community Liaison Officers

Webster’s network of Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) support communities within our expanded footprint. The CLOs work in partnership with Webster’s Office of Corporate Responsibility (OCR) to provide support and financial education to low-to-moderate income (LMI) and minority borrowers. They also work to increase lending options to meet local credit needs, especially for first-time homebuyers.
